Before he started his career in cinema he did various jobs in Chennai and Bengaluru like Coolie, carpenter and bus conductor in Bangalore Transport Service (BTS). He earned on that time Rs.750 per month.

His best friend Raj Bahadur helps out his through money to learn acting in a film academy in Chennai. During learning the acting he met the film director K Balachander, who offered the role in his Tamil film.
