This woman who embodies talent was born and raised partly in Minneapolis (Minnesota) on May 20, 1940. Her name was Joan Lynette McConchie at birth.
Growing up with a musical mother, Joan followed her mother to a concert when she was three, after which she asked for a violin. Little Joan had her request and quickly started lessons with Karl Moldrem. Her talent was undeniable and she quickly won a first place at the Peter Meremblum Junior Symphony. She then made her first film appearance as a violinist alongside Joane Fontaine and Bing Crosby in ” The Emperor Waltz. ” ”

Joan Staley would spend another period of her childhood in Los Angeles, California. She traveled a lot in her childhood because of the nature of her parents’ work. She studied in Chicago, Washington DC and Paris. She then studied briefly at Chapman College before joining her parents in San Francisco.

Joan Staley’s parents were James McConchie (father) who worked as a gospel minister and Jean McConchie (mother) was a very talented musician playing piano, violin, viola and organ. They worked as African missionaries for a while before her father became an army chaplain. His work took them to different places.

Joan married Chuck Staley (a television director) in 1956. The couple met in France and moved to Memphis, Tennessee through Chuck’s job. They had their daughter (Sherrye Dee Staley) in 1959. Sadly the marriage ended in 1960 and Joan focused on her musical and artistic career which blossomed between the 1960s and 1970s.

Having learned of her first marriage, Joan’s second marriage was to Dale Sheets on January 14, 1967. He was 37 and she was 26 at the time. Dale is an executive at MCA and in 1969 the couple founded a talent management company “International Ventures Incorporated”.

Dale Sheets had 3 children (Linda, Vickie and Patti) from a previous marriage and Joan had one. Joan and Dale then had 3 children (Stephanie, Greg and Dina) together. The couple raised their 7 children together and already had 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren in 2013.
